Visas & Permits

Besides a valid passport and an Indian visa, there are no special visa requirements. It is advisable to get your Indian visa in your own home country.

It is easy to get permits for Sikkim nowadays. All Indian Missions abroad are authorized to issue a 30-day inner line permit for Sikkim. This can be stamped on the passport at the time of obtaining the visa but one must request it.

You can also get a 30 day permit from any of the Sikkim Tourism Offices located at Delhi, Kolkata or Siliguri. The 30 day permit is issued on the spot without any delay, provided photocopies of passport and visa details along with two passport size photographs of the applicants are made available.

Permits are also easily issued at the state border, Rangpo. The Tourism Officer stationed there will easily issue a permit with a two day validity to enable you to enter the state. This permit is then revalidated for the full 30 days on arrival at Gangtok. The state Government also extends the 30 day permit for another 30 days at a time if you wish to stay longer.

The Hotel can also provide assistance to guests with regard to obtaining permits.

The 30 day permit gives access to Gangtok, and all district headquarters (Namchi, Geyzing and Mangan) and all sub division head quarters (Soreng, Pakyong, Rabongla) except for Chungthang in North Sikkim. Other areas in North Sikkim, Tsomgo lake, Yumthang valley, and the trekking areas in West Sikkim is accessible only to foreigners who form a group of four or more persons. This permit also covers Rumtek, Phodong, Pemayangtse, Khelchopalri Lake and Tashiding. Special permits are required for entering Dzongu in North Sikkim also.

Most permits to places mentioned above can be easily arranged through the hotel travel desk or other local travel agents on arrival in Sikkim.
